In the charming Italian town of Siena, Sophie (Amy Brenneman) and her fiancé, Charlie (Chris Egan), embark on a romantic getaway. While exploring the city, Sophie stumbles upon a hidden courtyard in Verona, famous for being the setting where Romeo and Juliet's tragic love story unfolded. Among the ancient walls and ornate architecture, Sophie discovers a "letter to Juliet," one of thousands of undelivered messages left by lovelorn individuals seeking answers from their secret admirers. Sophie becomes intrigued by the tradition and decides to answer the letter on behalf of its author, Claire Smith (Natalie Magsig), an American girl who wrote about her unrequited love for a young man named Lorenzo. In response, Sophie pens a heartfelt reply, pretending to be Juliet herself, and sends it back to Claire in New York. Unbeknownst to Sophie, Claire is overjoyed by the unexpected response and begins a correspondence with "Juliet" (Sophie). As their exchange continues, Sophie finds herself becoming more invested in Claire's story and her own feelings. The letters become a bridge between the two women, allowing them to share their hopes, dreams, and sorrows.
